The Healey-Driscoll administration and the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative’s (MassTech) Innovation Institute announced more than $16.3 million and designated 14 regions across Massachusetts as official TechHubs through the Massachusetts (MA) TechHubs Program. Created through the Mass Leads Act, the TechHubs Program is designed to strengthen regional innovation ecosystems by investing in technology development, high-growth industries and innovative local companies. Myrias Optics and the Berkshire Innovation Center are partnering to build a manufacturing facility for wafer level optics based on Myrias’ proprietary all-inorganic additive nanoimprinting technology and received a $5.2M grant. This Transformation Grant, which was one of the largest awards presented, is intended to execute large-scale projects that enhance innovation infrastructure, catalyze technology commercialization, and foster workforce development. The manufacturing facilities will be located in Pittsfield MA, and will be part of a 7,000-square-foot advanced optics tech hub expansion.
