Meet the Myrias Team

James Watkins, PhD

Founder and CSO

Tenured professor at UMass Amherst, Director Institute for Hierarchical Manufacturing, 25+ years of experience in R&D, expert in nanomanufacturing and focused on enabling academic-industry collaborations across multiple application spaces. Raised $75M in research funding at UMass and mentor to 50+ Ph.D. students. Primary visionary for making Myrias’ technology a reality.​

Patrick Tan

CEO

Co-founded and led 3 optics-centric startups. 1 sold to Zygo. Served on 2 Boards. M&A & public offering experience. Started 2 SE Asia factories. Experienced NPI & supply chain manager. Investor in multiple startups via 2 VC platforms. BSME, MSME, MIT. Occasional alumnus mentor and volunteer to the MIT community.

Amir Arbabi, PhD

Design Expert, Advisor​

Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering, UMass Amherst. Pioneer in metasurface design and fabrication. Patented a broad portfolio of designs in anticipation for the scaling of metalenses and metasurfaces, greatly enabling the field and Myrias specifically. PhD in Electrical Engineering from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. ​

Vincent Einck, PhD

Co-founder & CTO

Former post-doc and Ph.D. student at UMass Amherst with deep expertise in the R&D of material sets that meet processing, quality, and safety requirements of the additive manufacturing industry for meta-optics. Prior experience at multiple start-ups, responsible for meeting target specifications and providing end-to-end solutions. ​

Dae Eon Jung, PhD

Technical Advisor​

Post-doc at UMass Amherst expert in the scaling and commercialization of meta-optics. A strong background in polymer rheology and fluid dynamics essential for Myrias’ technology development, optimization, and quality control. Specialized in customer-based re-design of the process and product manufacturing.​

Myrias Optics, Inc is an emerging dynamic start-up company, based in Amherst, Massachusetts. We have a “work-family” startup culture, in an area where housing and overall living costs are affordable. Myrias intends to scale in Western Massachusetts, adding good jobs in under-served area(s). ​
